What we collect, in plain English

No accounts, ever

There is nothing to sign up for in order to browse this site. We do not ask for your name, your address, or your dog's name, and there is no login.

Business listings

Listings contain business contact information — name, address, phone, website — compiled from public sources and from owners who claim their listing. This is business contact information, not personal information. If you own a listed business and want it changed or removed, email us and it is handled.

Links out to businesses

When you tap through to a business website, we add tracking tags to the link (utm_source and utm_medium) so the business can see the visit came from this directory. That tag tells them a visitor came from Dog Friendly Hillsboro. It does not identify you.

Counts, not profiles

We count profile views, phone taps, map taps, and outbound website clicks per listing so that we can eventually tell each business how much interest their listing is getting. We haven't built those summaries yet — right now the counts just accumulate. We record the page, the action, and a one-way scrambled form of your IP address — never the address itself, and never a name, a cookie, or an advertising identifier. We do not track you across other websites and we do not sell data to anyone. Blocking JavaScript stops this collection entirely; nothing on the site breaks if you do.

Separately, we count how many people visit the site overall, and which pages they land on, using Vercel's own analytics. That is for us, not for the businesses — it tells us whether anyone is finding the directory at all. It sets no cookie, does not identify you, and does not follow you to other sites. Blocking JavaScript stops it too.

When you send us something

If you claim a listing, we store the business name, your name, email, phone number, and anything you write, so we can call you to verify you're the owner. We also record a scrambled version of your IP — the same kind we use for counting — so one person can't flood the form with submissions. We don't use any of this for anything beyond verifying the claim and guarding against spam.

If you give us your email for updates, we store the address, the page you gave it on, and that same scrambled IP for the same spam-guarding reason. We are not sending anything yet — there is no newsletter to speak of. When there is, you'll be able to leave in one click, and you can ask us to delete your address before then by emailing bluecaptainllc@gmail.com.

Who else sees this data

Three companies handle this on our behalf: Vercel hosts the site, runs the code that receives taps and form submissions, and counts the visits described above, Neon is the database where that information is stored, and Resend delivers the email that tells us a claim came in — the claimant's name, email, phone, and message, plus the business name and listing being claimed.

One more, unrelated to any of the above: every page on this site loads its fonts from Google Fonts, so Google sees the IP address of everyone who visits, not just people who tap something or fill out a form.

Advertising

Some cards are ads or carry affiliate links, and each one is labeled "Ad" where it appears. Following an affiliate link takes you to another company's site, which has its own privacy practices. Ads never change how local businesses are listed or ranked here.

Questions or removals

Nothing above is deleted on a schedule — tracking rows, claim requests, and stored email addresses stay until someone asks us to remove them. Email bluecaptainllc@gmail.com and we'll delete anything tied to you. Dog Friendly Hillsboro is operated by Blue Captain LLC, Hillsboro, Oregon.
